Commercial Building Fire in the 200 Block of South Drive

Firefighters respond to reports of flames in an office building

Post Date:04/02/2026 8:24 p.m.

On Thursday, April 2 at 4:45 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting smoke and flames coming from a vacant commercial building.

City of Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 4:45 p.m. and the first engine company arrived on the scene at 4:46 p.m. Upon arrival, units found an exterior fire threatening a single-story office building. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with a fire-attack hose line, preventing the fire from spreading into the office space and the adjacent building.

Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras and breached the ceiling to confirm that the spread of the fire had been stopped. Fire crews used salvage operations techniques to remove water and smoke from the affected office space before leaving the scene.

The fire was extinguished without injury to civilians or firefighters. The damage is estimated to be $50,000. The origin of the fire was determined to be an exterior storage box. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Mountain View Police Department provided traffic control for 90 minutes while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

The building was released to the property manager before the fire crews departed the scene.
